Researchers from Digital Creativity Labs are collaborating with Betajester to develop a mobile app that will enhance audience engagement during video game streaming.

Using online digital card game, Hearthstone, as a proof of concept, the new system enables broadcasters to to run audience polls and other interactions during a stream.

Using real-time data collected from audience members who participate in the poll, EARS will interpret analytics and highlight new player strategies directly to the broadcaster.

This will impact directly on the story narrative and provide an improved audience experience.

By tapping into the wisdom of the streaming community, the system also has the potential to be used by someone playing the game, in addition to the streamer.

The technology developed as part of this project has laid the foundations for future phases, in the form of a system sophisticated enough to be adapted to a variety of esports or streamed games in order to enhance the audience experience.
